7 Ways to Stay Motivated to Exercise Regularly

A lot of people find that staying motivated to exercise regularly can be extremely difficult. This is largely due to the fact that exercise itself is often extremely tough and it’s incredibly easy to make excuses in order to avoid it. However, this shouldn't be how it is. Exercise should be something that people want to do, due to the many great benefits that it brings. If you are finding it hard to motivate yourself to exercise then you should read these 7 pieces of fantastic advice.


#1 Choose a Gym That Is Close To Your Home
It’s impossible to make excuses about the gym being too far away, or the traffic being too much, if your gym is close to home. Because of this you should always choose to join a gym that is close to your home. A lot of studies have shown that doing this increases the number of times gym members will go to the gym. Don’t make any excuses about the facilities, or the other members either. As long as the gym has basic equipment for you to use you’re good to go.


#2 Do Exercises That You Enjoy Doing
Exercising should be something that you enjoy and get pleasure out of. Because of this you should make sure that you only do exercises that you enjoy doing. If you’re weightlifting and hate doing squats then choose an alternative such as the leg press. If you’re doing cardiovascular work and don’t like to run then do some cycling or rowing instead. If you only do the exercises that you enjoy, you will find yourself more motivated than you have ever been.

#3 Make an Awesome Music Playlist
Music is a huge motivator when it comes to exercising. So having a music playlist packed with music that you enjoy, and that motivates you, is essential. You can either put together a playlist from the music you already have, or you can download a new one that someone else has put together from the internet. It’s better to have a few different playlists or a large playlist so that you don’t get bored of the music that it contains.


#4 Get a Training Partner
It’s going to be pretty hard to make excuses on why you can’t exercise when you have someone else that is relying on you. This is why most gym goers recommended having a training partner. Having a training partner will help to make sure that you keep exercising regularly and they can help to push you so that you get the most out of your workouts. It’s important that you find someone with a similar schedule to you so that the training partnership works out.

#5 Set Lots of Small Goals
A lot of people fail to stay motivated because they don’t see the goals that they want, as fast as they want. They set themselves a huge goal such as gaining a stone of muscle, or dropping a dress size and lose motivation when it doesn’t happen in a week. Changes like this take time, therefore it’s a much better idea to set yourself lots of small goals that can be achieved in a short space of time. A few examples include reducing the time it takes you to run a mile by a few seconds or using some heavier weights when training chest. Whatever goals you set, just make sure they are realistic and aren’t simply impossible to achieve in the time that you give yourself.

#6 Mix Things Up!
Although it’s important to find out what exercise regime works for you, every once in a while when you feel your motivation levels dropping, it’s a great idea to mix things up. Sometimes you will need to make some big changes such as changing your workout programme completely, while other times you may just need to change the order you do things, or the route that you run. No matter what the changes are, just make sure that you do them as you will be amazed at how much it will increase your motivation levels.

#7 Choose a Diet That You Enjoy
Exercise and dieting are two things that go hand in hand. The issue with this is that when people are dieting and can’t eat the things that they like, it affects their motivation to exercise. A solution to this problem is to choose a diet that you enjoy doing, but still helps you to achieve your goal. This isn’t difficult to do as there are literally millions of different diets that you can choose from. For example you could choose a low carb diet, a high protein diet or a juice cleanse diet where you can get juice cleanse delivery.
